This lecture starts on 14 January at 5:00pm (UK).

Summary

After the collapse of the Hapsburg Empire, the duality of Vienna was never more apparent. No longer the capital of an imperial empire, it was now the city of a truncated, demoralized Austria. Nevertheless, art and culture thrived, and Jews were at the forefront of great movements of change. As the dark clouds of reactionism set in, individuals such as Freud, Zweig, Schitzler, and Reinhardt tried to hold back the tide. This presentation also serves as a warning for our times.
