Thursday 22.05.2025

How to watch

This lecture starts on 22 May at 5:00pm (UK).

Summary

An extraordinary examination of the Jews who were born in Breslau (Wrocław), Poland, including Paul Erlich, Ferdinand Cohn, Leopold Auerbach, and Fritz Haber, all of whom revolutionized the modern sciences, while others like Ernst Cassirer and Norbert Elias impacted philosophy and the arts. Nowhere was the love affair of Jews with Germany more acute and ultimately tragic than in Breslau.
