Professor David Peimer
Genghis Khan: “Man of the Millennium’’ (Washington Post) in History and Film

Saturday 18.01.2025

Summary

The Washington Post acclaimed Genghis Khan (1162–1227) as the “man of the millennium” who “embodied the half-civilized, half-savage duality of the human race.” His vast conquests stretched from Central Asia to Central Europe and covered 16% of the planet’s landmass. His brutal military methods killed millions yet his conquests also facilitated unheard of political, commercial, and cultural exchange over a vast area. In this bravura presentation we will look at the life of this ruthless and remarkably complex man in film and history.
